- Taught occasional workshops for mid-career journalists for UC Berkeley’s Knight Digital Media Center.
- Co-taught Berkeley’s 2009 New21 course, a 12-school, Carnegie-Knight initiative on the future of journalism. As part of the project, I built a prototype city data comparison site in Django.
- Was an early technology consultant The Bay Citizen, a non-profit, member-supported news organization.

- Managed the production-oriented new media journalists for Greenspun Media Group’s recent television projects and the company’s traditionally print publications, including: the daily Las Vegas Sun; Las Vegas Weekly, an edgy alternative magazine; the weekly InBusiness newspaper; eight weekly community newspapers and other Vegas-centric magazines.
- Project managed the launch of lasvegassun.com, lasvegasweekly.com, the weekly “All In” sports show for a local broadcast station and 702.tv, both the Web and television product.
- Participated in the conception, design and execution of company-wide new media initiatives, both technically and editorially.
- Oversaw video-related infrastructure build out for Greenspun Media Group, including storage, asset management, studio space and IP distribution.
- Filled in where needed on deadline-driven projects, from Web and Flash developer to cutline writer.

- Developed a PHP API to handle templating, database calls and membership data searches across multiple sites.

- Spearheaded the migration of Web sites from many under-utilized dedicated Linux/Apache/MySQL servers to virtually hosted Web sites on one small, easier-to-manage cluster.

- Built Web-based applications with PHP on Windows and Linux, including: a shopping cart, template-driven pages, a news release CMS, a searchable tree database and an interface for an ArcIMS map server.
- Developed a Web-based conference registration tool (PHP/MySQL) with a Microsoft Access/MyODBC-based administration interface for ease of use and standard Microsoft Office features, such as mail merges.
- Administered all Web, DNS, file, and print servers on Windows NT and Linux, as well as the Cisco router and firewall.

I have found the following tools invaluable in solving real-world problems, from building Web sites to kiosks to e-commerce solutions. I’ve used a lot more, but to varying degrees of proficiency, I consider these part of my bag of tricks:
XHTML, CSS, PHP, Python, Django, MySQL, SQL Server, WordPress CMS, Ellington CMS, Flash/Actionscript, Apache, BIND, BASH, Subversion, procmail, TextMate, vim, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, basic photography and videography, and basic system administration on OS X, Linux and Windows.
